Parents - Looking for a summer art workshop or art daycamp in Sun Peaks for your children?  We have the studio space, we have the artists.....what we need to know is your children's interests and programming needs.  We currently have a collage and two clay handbuilding workshops planned which is a great start for our first year. DEBBIE MILNER: “PAINT OUT” - JULY 7 & 8:  $150/2 days

Let Debbie guide you through the experience of painting outdoors at Sun Peaks.

Day 1:  Capture village ambience and find subjects throughout the charming village.

Day 2: Take to the mountains to paint alpine meadows and vistas. Learn how to capture the natural light, choose strong compositions while enhancing your own natural painting style. Debbie is a fantastic teacher and all levels of painters will gain from this outing! 

“Alpine Watercolor Sketches” - JULY 14 & 15 $160/2days

Vaughn is a veteran of the "Paint Out" experience and says, "If you're painting at Sun Peaks you have to try painting outdoors!" He has taught workshops in Sun Peaks previously that were very well attended and is excited to be back. During his 2 day painting adventure he promises to share some of his favorite spots and vistas in the resort. The workshop is designed to enjoy the great outdoors at Sun Peaks, loosen you up and improve your powers of observation.

CLAY HANDBUILDING II  $35/day (plus $7 for supplies)

SATURDAY JULY 21: CHILDREN’S CLAY HANDBUILDING (ages 6-12) Fun projects geared to kids. Pieces will be made in the morning, colored and glazed and taken to Karen’s studio for firing.  Finished pieces will be picked up the following week or arrangements may be made for shipping. 

SUNDAY JULY 22:  YOUTH & ADULT CLAY HANDBUILDING (Ages 12 and up) Experience working with clay in a fun and friendly environment.  Beginners and intermediate potters will create projects ranging from functional to sculptural.

FANTASY COLLAGE - JULY 28 & 29 ($25/day or $50/2 days - supplies included)

All types of paper, cards, magazines and found objects will be used to create a collage that can be finished with drawing and colouring. Anyone can do it - simple or complicated, choose your favourite theme. Great for a decoration at home or a gift for loved ones. By the end of the workshop each student will have his/her artwork to take home. All ages can have fun with this workshop and materials are provided. Children under 6 should be accompanied by a parent or sibling.

“WATERCOLOR WHIMSY - AUGUST 11 & 12”  $160/2days

Alex has a whimsical style that is fun and bright and will help students get past the thought that you must always paint what you see. Fong is well known for his translucent, impressionistic paintings that capture the power of light and colour. During this workshop Fong will conduct demonstrations on numerous watercolour techniques, and give participants guidance on developing their personal painting style. There will be plenty of opportunity for hands-on practice, and one-on-one feedback.

SATURDAY AUGUST 18:  CHILDREN'S "PLAY WITH CLAY” (Ages 6-12) Turn pinch pots into creatures: fish, birds or monsters

SUNDAY AUGUST 19: YOUTH & ADULT’s CLAY HANDBUILDING (Ages 12 and up) Have fun sculpting with clay (Beginner to Intermediate) Create a mask or wall plaque incorporating texture, stamps and elements of the outdoors.

“ALPINE COLOURS!” - AUGUST 25 - 26th $150/2days

Alpine colours! The alpine wildflowers should be at their peak during this timeslot.

Come enjoy outdoor painting "en plein air" with renowned colourist, John H. Burrow. This class will be for all levels of artists using oil or acrylic paint. John will give a painting demonstration followed by a discussion on improving your outdoor painting experience. Let's take a trip to the summit of Sun Peaks for two days of great mountain-top painting!

The First in a series of Art Adventures to be held in Sun Peaks this summer.....

Let Debbie guide you through the experience of painting outdoors at Sun Peaks.

Tips will be given on painting preparation and how to how to enhance your own painting style while working in the elements. You will learn how to choose a good composition from the scene around you, paint more spontaneously, how to see and paint the values, colours and light around you, strategic brush work, and more! Participants can exhibit their finished works at the Art Zone immediately following, and can choose to place their paintings in a silent auction with 80% of the selling amount going to the artist.
